About TVS
TVS - A Different View
In February 2006 TVS became the first new permanent free-to-air television channel in Sydney in more than twenty-five years. Of course, since then new digital channels have been launched and in 2010 TVS also commenced digital broadcasts. From 2010 until the switch-off of all of Sydney's analogue channels in 2013 TVS will "simulcast" in both digital and analogue.
TVS stands for Television Sydney, and we can be found on digital channel 44, and analogue channel 31 throughout the Sydney area.
The signal from our analogue transmitter at Gore Hill stretches the length and breadth of Sydney, with reports of clear reception as far south as Wollongong, the Blue Mountains and on the Central Coast. You can also watch TVS right here on the website by clicking the "Watch Now" button at the top right.
At TVS we are committed to providing an outlet for programs for all the communities of Sydney and our aim is to maximise the number of programs made here in Sydney. We like to be engaging and thoughtful; featuring issues that other television channels often ignore. We encourage innovative program styles where creative producers explore new formats and showcase emerging talent. Genuine not-for-profit community based program makers receive free program airtime.
The TVS program line-up is based on a "modified wheel" concept where programs are run several times in the same week to allow audiences a choice of viewing times and to increase the aggregate audience for each program. The station's program schedule is published in most electronic program guides (EPG's) and in the Sydney Morning Herald and the Daily Telegraph.
TVS is allowed to broadcast up to seven minutes per hour of Sponsorship Announcements - just like thirty second television commercials - and can sell up to eight hours of its program airtime per day to profit-making producers. Our Broadcast Operations Centre is located at the University of Western Sydney's Werrington South campus. It has a automated digital play-out facility, purpose-built to ensure that the channel is able to evolve with future advances in broadcasting technology and changes to the Australian media laws.
TVS is a not-for-profit Community Television channel. We have a small management team backed up by the many volunteers who make our programs and a board of honorary directors.
TVS is a founding member of the Australian Community Television Alliance (ACTA).
