Open Forum screens on TVS over summer
Date: 22/11/2011
Television Sydney is proud to unveil a new Open Forum series of topical addresses and debates ranging from Sharia law to same sex marriage, to be aired from Sunday 11th of December at 10pm on TVS, digital channel 44.
The Open Forum series, held by the University of Western Sydney, brings together public figures such as former High Court Judge Michael Kirby and international human rights campaigner Maryam Namazie to discuss important social issues.
Audience members are given their chance to quiz the speakers in highly charged question and answer sessions, with viewers given a greater perspective of community thought via a series of vox pops recorded at the event.
In addition to the Open Forums, viewers will be given the opportunity to hear from mining entrepreneur Andrew Forrest at a Generation One forum discussing skills and job training for Indigenous Australians.
The Open Forum series is hosted by former Australian Human Rights Commissioner and Director of Equity and Diversity at UWS, Dr Sev Ozdowski.
"We've had a fantastic community response for this year's Open Forum series, and now everyone who missed out has the chance to get involved in these discussions about Australia and our future," Dr Ozdowski says.
"It's important for people to have a balanced and informed view of Australian society, and the level of debate and the quality of speakers make it easy to engage with the ideas and solutions raised in these forums."
"We look forward to working with Television Sydney again next year to showcase the world's leading figures on multiculturalism, sustainability and the law."
The on air times for the Open Forum series are Sundays 10pm:
* Should Australia Keep Growing? Sustainability, Immigration and Multiculturalism, 11 December 2011
* Children in Immigration Detention Centres, 18 December 2011
* Multiculturalism, Terrorism and Peace - An Indian Experience, 1 January 2012
