Angle explores disability

Does society care about people with disabilities? The first instalment of a new weekly TVS current affairs program - Angle - sheds light on this important issue.

Angle is the first TVS program made by students from the School of Communication Arts at the University of Western Sydney.

In episode one, the students talk to Paralympian Peter Leek, who won eight medals at Beijing.  Next, they interview Noel Hiffernan from the Western Sydney Community Forum who has moved around in a wheelchair since he was seventeen.  Noel gives an insightful view of how society sees disabled people.

Despite the challenges there are opportunities out there and NOVA Disability Employment proves that disabled people can enjoy fulfilling jobs.

The half-hour show has more: The weekly "Media Mix" gives an overview of Western Sydney issues in the media, and "Greensleeves" brings helpful tips to improve your environmental footprint. This week's show includes a visit to the Parramatta Farmer's Market and, as a visual highlight, explores the colourful and exotic world of the Sydney Animania festival.

TVS Chief Executive Laurie Patton says Angle adds another dimension to the channel.

"Angle provides a fresh insight into life in Greater Western Sydney courtesy of the UWS students who have made the program for us," says Mr Patton.

"Angle is a great example of how Community Television provides an outlet for ideas and information that might otherwise never be seen on TV."

Don't miss Angle, commencing Tuesday June 2 at 8:30pm on TVS.  Also screening at 2:00pm on Wednesdays and at 11:30pm on Mondays.
