Community TV supports emerging film makers

Emerging film makers have an exciting new opportunity to have their work shown Australia-wide in a first for Community Television.

TVS, along with interstate community stations, is developing a contemporary new television series called Cheap Thrills; bringing together a unique collection of films from around Australia.

Cheap Thrills gives film makers the chance to reach audiences much greater than that of a festival screening.

Films up to 70 minutes in duration, independently funded and completed in the last ten years, are eligible.

All films will be curated by Leo Berkeley.  The head of Media at RMIT University, Berkeley has extensive experience as a film maker having written and directed a film selected for the Cannes Film Festival.

This innovative series will screen in prime time in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide.

TVS Chief Executive, Laurie Patton, said the channel was keen to support the development of the Australian film industry. "If we can interest people in watching our films on television then, in time, we will hopefully see an increase in box office returns for local films," Mr Patton said.
